Your experience begins in Strathalbyn (optional extra at checkout for departure from Hahndorf), where you’ll take off in your own private helicopter for the day, leaving the roads behind for unparalleled aerial views of the Adelaide Hills. As you fly over rolling vineyards, winding country roads, and undulating farmland, you’ll gain a whole new perspective on one of South Australia’s most picturesque wine regions.   

Your first stop is Vinteloper, one of Adelaide Hills newest and most aesthetic cellar doors, where wine is crafted with a deep respect for the land. This isn’t just a tasting, it’s a chance to step into the vineyard itself and uncover the winery’s journey from the devastation of bushfires to its five-year recovery, built on regenerative agriculture and sustainable practices. With the mastermind behind it all, David Bowley as your guide, you’ll walk among the vines and learn how the landscape directly influences each bottle. Along the way, you’ll taste wines of significance in locations that reflect their unique story, gaining a deeper appreciation for the process behind every glass. Seasonal small plates, including fresh oysters from the Bowley family’s farm in Stansbury, Yorke Peninsula, complement the tasting, offering a snapshot of local produce to round out the experience.   

After soaking up the story of Vinteloper, it’s time to take flight again. As the hills roll by beneath you, your helicopter sweeps toward Ondeen, a fine dining destination known for its produce-driven philosophy and understated elegance. Situated in a stunning Adelaide Hills setting, Ondeen is all about celebrating the land and sea through food. The menu is a thoughtful showcase of seasonal ingredients, crafted with precision and care. Expect dishes that highlight local seafood, ethically sourced meats, and vibrant vegetables, presented in a way that lets their natural flavours shine. The space itself reflects the surrounding landscape - warm, inviting, and perfectly in tune with its environment.   

As the afternoon winds down, your final scenic flight offers one last chance to take in the breathtaking views of South Australia's wine country from above. Rolling vineyards, distant hills, and endless blue skies provide a fitting backdrop for the journey back to Strathalbyn, wrapping up a day that seamlessly blends wine, food, and the sheer thrill of flight.

Experience Duration: 5 hours

Timing: 10:00am – 3:00pm 

Experience Dates: We operate Thursday – Monday each week. 

Flight Route: Start your journey from Strathalbyn, flying to Vinteloper in the Adelaide Hills and then on to Ondeen, then wrapping up your day with a scenic flight back to Strathalbyn.

Note: Slight variations to the experience may be made dependent on weather.  

What you need to know... 

·    A maximum individual weight of 136kg, maximum combined weight of 3 passengers is 270kg. 

·   We can accommodate groups of 2-6 people. Our R44 seats 3 passengers, so for bookings of 4 or more, we will operate with 2 trips to each location, with 3 passengers on board each flight. 

·   We fly with the front doors off! Pending the weather, we always fly with our doors off, as we’ve found that the open-air flight adds another level to the experience! If you’d prefer to fly with doors on, please let us know a minimum of 24 hours prior to your departure date. 

·   We are able to provide Adelaide Airport and Hahndorf helicopter transfers, with this being an add on cost at check out for relevant experiences.  

·   We can also provide recommendations for car transfers, as we do not include transfers to the starting location as part of this experience, unless it is selected as an add on option at checkout or you email us to arrange this direct. 

·   We are able to provide a custom price for accommodation pick up and drop off for your experience, as well as longer flights or personalised experiences. Please email info@southaustralianhelicopters.com.au
