Your journey begins with a helicopter departure from Strathalbyn (optional extra at checkout for departure from Hahndorf or Adelaide Airport), soaring over the rolling vineyards of the Fleurieu Peninsula before crossing Backstairs Passage. You’ll experience Kangaroo Island’s beauty from the air, with untouched beaches, rugged cliffs, and endless ocean views setting the stage for what’s to come.   

Your first landing is at Dudley Wines, Kangaroo Island’s first commercial winery, established in 1997. Family-owned and perched high on a coastal ridge, it’s the perfect place to start your island experience. Settle in for a tasting paddle of Dudley’s handcrafted wines, made exclusively from Kangaroo Island fruit. Enjoy priority seating on the deck as you take in panoramic views across the water while sharing gourmet wood-fired pizzas and regional platters featuring the best of local produce.   

After lunch, it's time to take off again, heading towards Kangaroo Island Spirits, home to Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery. Here, you’ll put your skills to the test with a two-hour guided cocktail masterclass, where you’ll learn to craft three signature drinks using KIS’ award-winning gin, vodka, and liqueurs. Master the art of mixing, shaking, and garnishing classic cocktails before sipping your creations, perfectly paired with a selection of locally sourced refreshments. To ensure you can impress at home, you’ll also receive take-home recipes so you can recreate your new favourites long after the experience ends.   

As the afternoon winds down, your adventure is far from over. Board your private helicopter for one final scenic flight, retracing your journey with a sweeping aerial tour of Kangaroo Island’s breathtaking coastline. From the clifftops of Dudley Peninsula to the sparkling waters of the Southern Ocean, this last stretch is one you’ll never want to end.

Experience Dates: We operate Thursday – Monday every week. 

Flight Route:  Start your journey from Strathalbyn and take a long scenic flight to Kangaroo Island to Dudley Wines, Kangaroo Island Spirits and then back to your starting location.

Note: Slight variations to the experience may be made dependent on weather.  

What you need to know... 

·      A maximum individual weight of 136kg, maximum combined weight of 3 passengers is 270kg. 

·      We can accommodate groups of 2-6 people. Our R44 seats 3 passengers, so for bookings of 4 or more, we will operate with 2 trips to each location, with 3 passengers on board each flight.

 ·      We fly with the front doors off! Pending the weather, we always fly with our doors off, as we’ve found that the open-air flight adds another level to the experience! If you’d prefer to fly with doors on, please let us know a minimum of 24 hours prior to your departure date. 

·      We are able to provide Adelaide Airport and Hahndorf helicopter transfers, with this being an add on cost at check out for relevant experiences.  

·      We can also provide recommendations for car transfers, as we do not include transfers to the starting location as part of this experience, unless it is selected as an add on option at checkout or you email us to arrange this direct.

·      We are able to provide a custom price for accommodation pick up and drop off for your experience, as well as longer flights or personalised experiences. Please email info@southaustralianhelicopters.com.au
